MINUTES OF MEETING

February 3, 2009

 

The February 2009 meeting of the New Jersey Department of Transportation Retirees Association, Inc., was held on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 at Tessarra’s in Hamilton Twp. 

 

Prior to the official meeting, Bob Innocenzi presented an update on the efforts to have the Legislature  enact legislation honoring Jack Friedenrich by naming a building on the NJDOT Ewing Headquarters complex after him. Bob also put in a plug for more participants in the NJDOT Golf Club (dotgolfclub@homestead.com).

 

After establishing a quorum was present, the meeting was called to order at 11:15 am by First Vice President Jay Johnston, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of January’s meeting were tabled until the March meeting. One correction noted was that the Spring Luncheon cost is $20.00 (not $15.00).

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

                                                                                                                                                              

Treasurer Papp explained that the “Excess Checks…” expense is a fee of $0.20 per check on each check over 20 checks per deposit. Jay Johnston will discuss this with CUNJ.

The Treasurer’s Report was accepted pending audit in a motion by Jay Johnston, second by Joe Bodnar. This is the last report for the year 2008 and thus there is a need for an annual audit. Peter Yull moved, and Adrian Lincoln seconded, that Peter Gorman, CPA, be hired to do an audit for the year 2008. The motion was approved.

 

MEMBERSHIP REPORT;

 

Janis Stia moved, and Donna Troiano seconded, that John Piscopo’s application for membership be accepted. This motion was approved.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

 

Memorial        Jim Dixon reported that the 8th Annual Silent Auction held On December 6th and 7th, raised over $7,000.00. The Committee will be developing a scholarship program; Jim will inquire as to eligibility of DOTRA members and their families.

 

Jim suggested that Chet Andres or another representative speak at the dedication of the building for Jack Friedenrich.

 

The Memorial Committee will be a commemorative plaque dedicated to the late Dick Hopson on April 15, 2009.

 

Luncheons      The Spring Luncheon will be held on March 11, at Charlie’s Other Brother, in Mount Holly, starting at 11:30 a.m.

 

Adrian Lincoln reported that the Summer Luncheon will be on June 3, at Charlie Brown’s, on Rte 27 in Kingston/Rocky Hill, starting at 11:30 a.m. Cost will be in the $25 -$27 range. There will be a beef, chicken and fish choice.

 

Trips               Jay Johnston reported that the Washington Trip is well in hand with 38 reservations.

 

                        The Quebec trip was cancelled by the cruise line.

 

                        Jay is looking at other cruise line as well as a possible Las Vegas trip (in the Fall).

 

Picnic  -           No Report

 

SOCIALS:      A get well card should be sent to Pat Yanucil.

 

                        A Thank You card was received from Frank Herrera.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  None

 

NEW BUSINESS:  The database of members should include email addresses. A suggestion was made that if something has to be removed to make room for it perhaps the “unit” field could be used.

 

            A request was made to send a membership form be sent to Bill Dill.

 

Jim Dixon announced that a Mercer County Senior (over 65) Softball game will be played at the Trenton Thunder ballpark after the scheduled Thunder game on June 14.

 

Jay Johnston moved for adjournment, seconded by Art Egan, and the meeting adjourned at 11:55 a.m.
